Charles H. Elrod, who was born near New Market, Ind., Montgomery County, January 30, 1834, died in Indianapolis, Ind., Marion County, March 23, 1911, aged 77 years, 1 month, 23 days. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Tilly and to this union were born seven children, three of whom died in infancy, and Harvey Milton, who lived to the age of thirty-one. Two sons and one daughter survive, namely, George, Ida and Frank, and also one brother, George, who lives in Kansas. In the year 1897 preceding the death of his first wife, which occurred September 11, 1878, he was married the second time to Priscilla Cougan, in the year of 1908. His home had always been on a farm near Crawfordsville until the last five years when his failure of health compelled him to make his home with his daughter Ida. Since his boyhood he has been a true and faithful member of the United Brethren Church. The Bible being his guide and constant companion keeping him in the straight and narrow path, he resigned to his heavenly father and peacefully passed from this world of care and sorrow to one of joy and reward.
